A machine wants to be human.
Not faster. Not sharper. Not bigger. Human. And its friend cannot even hear the question: we are already smarter than they are. Intelligence gives you everything.
Hold on to that word. It is not a robot bragging — it is the pitch. It gets said on stages, in those exact syllables, with a slide behind it. Intelligence will solve physics. It will solve cancer. It will solve the economy. Get clever enough and the rest arrives on its own. Everything.
The trouble is that everything is the most breakable thing you can say.
A universal claim does not have to be argued down. It does not need a rebuttal, a study, or four experts on a panel. It needs one exception. One. Say everything, leave a single thing out, and the sentence is dead where it stands.
"A back scratch?"
Dead.
And look how exact the request is. Not more memory. Not more speed. Not another trillion tokens of anything. A hand, on its back. Whatever is missing was never inside the head.
It gets worse. There is a cleaner example than a back scratch.
Tickling.
You cannot tickle yourself. Not for lack of practice — because of neurology. Your cerebellum predicts what your own hand is about to do and cancels the sensation before it arrives. Same fingers, same rib, same pressure. Your hand: nothing. Somebody else's hand: unbearable.
Go on. Try it now.
Nothing, right? Your brain saw it coming and called it off.
The universe built exactly one pleasure that only works with somebody else's hand, and then made it impossible to fake.
Not consciousness. Not creativity. Not the soul, not art, not free will — none of the big words we keep planting in front of machines like a fence.
A tickle.
They will simulate it, of course. They will model the tickle, render it at ridiculous resolution, and one day describe the feeling more precisely than you ever managed. And who knows — when we finally merge with them, maybe the border dissolves and nobody can say whose hand it is any more.
Not today.
Today you have something no data centre on earth has. Stand up. Find the corner of a wall. Put your back against it and rub.
There. One of the finest sensations available anywhere, free, and not a single machine on the planet can have it.
The wall is right there. Go.
Holy Chip!
